Client objective – To create a functional cooking space with an abundance of counter surface and storage, that doubles as a lovely environment for entertaining guests.
The space was completely open with no division within the living area. The kitchen seemed small and insignificant, with no thought for function from a cooking standpoint. By creating the illusion of a separate space for the kitchen, it allowed the living area to feel more spacious overall. Jamie thought the best approach was to soffit from above, making a distinction between the kitchen and living space, but allowing flow and openness from below. The client had specific appliance requirements which Jamie sufficed through the creation of two separate islands. Jamie closed off the wall leading to a pantry/laundry room and opened it up from the entry to create a mudroom/laundry room. This allowed for maximum storage and a strategically placed focal point at the range-top.
